The Phantom Coach by Amelia B Edwards is a Victorian gothic shocker set on the snowbound north Pennines. Safe as Houses by Christine Poulson shows what might happen if smart home technology turns malicious. Three Miles Up by Elizabeth Jane Howard charts a compelling love triangle on a voyage into the macabre.
