RIVERS: From Source to Sea by Network Artists North East – Hexham Hub

Network Artists North East was established in 1992 as an independent association of professional
artists living and working in Northumberland. It aims to provide a service to artists individually and
collectively through networking, and a programme of opportunities and events to aid and further
their practise. In response to demand, the Network has expanded and now covers the whole of
the North East Region, which is divided up into geographical hubs.

In this exhibition, ‘Rivers, from source to sea”, nine members of the Hexham hub, present their
work in response to this topic. All the artists live within close proximity to either the North Tyne or
South Tyne Rivers, which come together just outside Hexham to form the River Tyne, and flows
into the sea at Tynemouth. The Northumberland landscape forms a powerful backdrop to these
waterways, and is reflected in the work presented, whether it be 2D art, ceramics or woven
textiles.
