Artist Statement
I am proud to call myself a traditional artist. I work mainly in watercolours but have recently started painting in oils.
I love to paint en-plein-air. This is my inspiration, working directly from my subject, painting as swiftly as possible to capture a scene before the light and the weather change.
My main subjects are townscapes and harbours particularly in the evening, I love to try and catch the fading light and the effervescent glow of street lights and windows. I am always amazed at how the diffuse lights change the ambience and ‘feel’ of a town or harbour.
The best paintings I will work up to a finished subject in my studio, or I will use the sketches to produce a new work.
