Sarah Bradford – Artist Statement:
My work attempts to recapture the essence of places seen and felt, not in any topographical sense, but as a subjective and personal view. This making of an imagined landscape is a summing-up of memory and experience. Impressions, large and small, distant, and close-up, how even the smallest detail can recall the whole and ideas about scale are explored. My landscape is not dramatic. It expresses the gentle swell of the land, its modulations, the shape of fields and stands of trees, the meander of roads, pathways, and hedgerows. I am drawn towards the marks and features of habitation that have existed for millennia. Colour is the key as it informs the time of day or year and weather.
All are brought together to form coherent and convincing landscape imagery whilst holding fast to the autonomy of painting.
Geoffrey Bradford – Artist Statement:
It is difficult to write a statement that succinctly characterises Geoffrey Bradfords work, in many ways he is a materials lead artist responding to their inherent qualities and characteristics that are revealed through the process of working, it applies equally to all aspects of his work including drawing.
This approach will, often quite naturally generate an increasing number of ideas. In practical terms, finding out through experimentation and using alternative processes and making skills has been one of the most interesting areas of his personal discovery and learning.
The materials he uses are wide ranging from the more traditional, paint, pencil, pigment, clay, metal to found scraps of the everyday detritus that others may discard.
