Helen Alive Johnson: Artist Statement

Helen Alice is a full-time professional artist with studios in Cumbria and Pays de Le Loire, Northern France.

She was Artist in Residence at Rydal Mount and Gardens in the Lake District from 2019 to 2020.

She has a BA Hons in Visual Art with Art History and an MA in Contemporary Fine Art Practice and was the Saatchi Art Online Curator’s Choice in 2022 as well as being shortlisted from over 3000 artists worldwide for the VAA International Exhibition and Scholarship Award in 2022.

She is currently longlisted for the VAA Professional Artist of the Year Award 2024.

Helen Alice regularly sells her work in London and America and has exhibitions across the UK.

She paints vibrant landscapes, often, but not exclusively abstract, which aim to be celebratory in nature whilst also acknowledging that in order to celebrate our environment, we have a responsibility to care for it too.

Each year Helen Alice focuses on a different theme.    In 2022 it was Gardens; throughout 2023 it was rivers and this year it is The Space In-between
